South India Rally '99

Held in the city of Chennai in the month of June 1999 & organised by the Madras Motosport's Club,The South India Rally is an eagerley awaited event on the rally calender.Run over a period of two days,the event had three different stages which included the stage at the Irrungatukotai Race track and the Canal stage.The other stage was run on the periphery of the race track.

The event was won by Team Yamaha who clinched,both Group C & Group D honours with Rohitaz Kumar winning the event as well as Grp.C and R.Srinivas taking home the Grp.D trophy.Zubin Patel of Team Suzuki,on a Grp. C Shogun,came home in second place overall.Due credit goes to Amarinder Sandhu and other riders who put in a stupendous performance but withdrew due to various technical gremlins and the like.

 

Karnataka 1000 / K~1000 ' 99

The event, runnning for its 25th consecutive time in the Month of August '99 had fifty odd competitors taking the start at Bangalore.The event was/is organised by the Karnataka Motorsport Club and ran over a distance of about 600km.The terrain for the event was nearly 100% dirt with a little tarmac thrown in for good measure.

The event spelt doom for Team TVS Suzuki from day 1 when it's No.1 competitor,Zubin Patel crashed horrendously on the recce itself. History repeated itself with Team Yamaha winning the event overall as well as Grp.D.Rohitaz Kumar came in first,with his team-mates K Prasad & RH Vikram in second and third respectivley.Akash Ithal of Team Nanjappa [Yamaha] was fourth.Grp.D honours was again annexed by R Srinivas.Other riders who performed well included ,A Manu, Pramod Raman & Rohan Rego.

 

Kadur Safari '99

Organised by the Kadur Auto Sports Club & held after a gap of two years the event attracted about 20 enteries who took the start at Mysore,on the last Christmas day of the 20th Century.The terrain for the major part of the event was dirt roads along the banks of a few canals with one stage going through thick forests.

The event had two major teams participating namely,Team Zen and Team Pushpak Yamaha, the rest of the competition came from privateers and the like.The guys on the Yamaha's [Team Pushpak] claimed overall as well as Grp.C honours with their riders Rupesh and Akash Ithal coming in first and second respectivley..Team Zen on their Suzuki's ran away with the Grp.D title along with a number of placings on the overall scoreboard.Due credit goes to S.P Chinappa who finished the event without a tyre on his back wheel (which was sort of square in shape!).

This particular event is not part of the National Rally Championship but runs on a similar format.
